Vice-President Marks Constitution Day, Releases Book

Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan Marks Constitution Day at Delhi Assembly, Releases Coffee Table Book on India’s Legislative Journey

The Vice-President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, today participated as the Chief Guest in the ‘Constitution Day’ celebrations at the Delhi Legislative Assembly and released a Coffee Table Book commemorating 100 years of Shri Vithalbhai Patel’s election as India’s first Speaker.

In his address, the Vice-President described the Constitution as a “living document” that continues to guide India’s democratic journey. Paying tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he highlighted that the Constitution reflects the intellect, sacrifices, and dreams of millions who fought for India’s freedom.

Shri Radhakrishnan noted that 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty in the last decade and 100 crore citizens are now covered under various social security schemes, calling these milestones “achievements with no parallel in human history.” He emphasized that India is progressing steadily toward a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, guided by constitutional principles.

Appreciating the diverse professional representation in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the Vice-President commended the presence of committees for senior citizens, transgender persons, and persons with disabilities. He also lauded Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta for exemplifying the nation’s shift from women’s empowerment to women-led development.

The Coffee Table Book released today features rare photographs, key speeches, archival material on Shri Vithalbhai Patel, and visuals from the All India Speakers’ Conference held in 2025. Shri Radhakrishnan said it would help future generations remain connected to India’s legislative history.

Concluding his address, he urged legislators to contribute constructively through debate and dialogue and called upon citizens to uphold the spirit of Fundamental Duties. He also paid floral tributes at the statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Shri Vithalbhai Patel within the Assembly premises.

Lt. Governor Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta, Ministers, MLAs, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
