VB–G RAM G Act Boosts Rural Transformation

VB–G RAM G Act to Transform Rural Employment: Sukanta Majumdar

Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, on Friday said the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G) Act, 2025 marks a major milestone in the transformation of Rural Bharat and is fully aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

Interacting with the media in New Delhi, Dr. Majumdar said the Act enhances the statutory wage employment guarantee for rural households to 125 days per financial year. He said the legislation aims to promote empowerment, inclusive growth, convergence of development initiatives and saturation-based delivery, thereby strengthening the foundation of a self-reliant and resilient rural economy.

The Minister informed that Parliament has passed the VB–G RAM G Act, 2025, describing it as a decisive reform in India’s rural employment and development framework. He said the Act repositions rural employment from a standalone welfare measure into an integrated instrument of development by linking wage employment with the creation of durable and productive rural assets.

Highlighting the role of decentralisation, Dr. Majumdar said planning powers under the Act will rest with Gram Sabhas and Panchayats, enabling grassroots institutions to lead development in line with local needs. He added that strengthened governance and accountability mechanisms will enhance transparency and effectiveness in implementation.

Focusing on the education sector, the Minister said the VB–G RAM G framework allows a wide range of works to strengthen rural education infrastructure. Provisions for the construction and maintenance of classrooms, laboratories, playgrounds, compound walls, toilets and kitchen sheds in government schools will help create safer and more child-friendly learning environments. He also noted that improved anganwadi buildings and sanitation facilities would reinforce early childhood education.

Dr. Majumdar further said the inclusion of rural libraries and training and skill development centres under the Act would expand learning opportunities beyond formal schooling, benefiting youth, women and adult learners within villages.

He emphasised that by expanding employment guarantees, institutionalising decentralised planning and promoting convergence-driven development, the VB–G RAM G Act, 2025 lays the groundwork for a prosperous and resilient Rural Bharat, firmly aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
