UP Rudras Appoint Hardik Singh as Captain for HIL 2024-25 Season

UP Rudras, the Lucknow-based franchise of the Hockey India League (HIL), has announced Indian Vice-Captain Hardik Singh as the captain for their inaugural season. The 26-year-old midfielder, a recipient of the prestigious FIH Player of the Year Award in 2023, brings his vast experience to lead the team. Having earned 140 caps for Team India, Hardik is well-recognized for his leadership qualities and outstanding performances, including securing two Olympic bronze medals.
Under the guidance of head coach Paul Van Ass and technical director Cedric Dsouza, the squad also features prominent players like Priyobarta Talem, Gurjot Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Simranjeet Singh, and international stars Lars Balk and Kane Russel.
Commenting on the captaincy, Hardik Singh expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s an honor to lead UP Rudras, especially representing Dhyanchand Ji’s hometown. Our squad is strong in every department, and we are eager to step onto the field and give our best.”
Madhavkrishna Singhania, Co-Founder of Yadu Sports, the team’s owners, also extended his congratulations, expressing confidence in the team’s potential to inspire and elevate India’s position in global hockey.
The UP Rudras will kick off their campaign by facing Vedanta Kalinga Lancers on December 30, 2024, at Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela.
With Hardik at the helm, UP Rudras is ready to make a significant impact in the Hockey India League’s 2024-25 season.
