UP CM Urges Innovation in Agriculture

UP CM Calls for Boost in Agricultural Research and Innovation
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday emphasized the urgent need to accelerate research and innovation in the agriculture sector to fully harness the state’s rich agrarian potential. He was speaking at the 36th Foundation Day celebrations of the Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research (UPCAR) and a national seminar held in Lucknow.
Highlighting the state’s natural advantages, the Chief Minister noted, “Nature and God have been kind to Uttar Pradesh — we have vast fertile land, abundant water resources, and over 86 per cent of cultivable land is irrigated.” Despite these strengths, he expressed concern over the limited reach and impact of agricultural research.
He revealed that only 25 to 30 percent of the state’s farmers currently implement scientific research in their farming practices. “This is a worrying figure considering the immense potential of our state,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister urged agricultural scientists, institutions, and policymakers to work in synergy to bridge this gap. He stressed the importance of not just producing research but ensuring its effective dissemination and application at the grassroots level.
Yogi Adityanath also praised the contribution of agricultural universities and research institutions in the state, but reiterated the need for more practical, farmer-centric innovations. He encouraged the use of digital tools, sustainable practices, and new technologies to empower farmers and increase productivity.
The event brought together agricultural experts, researchers, students, and policymakers from across the country to discuss strategies for enhancing research, improving farmer outreach, and boosting sustainable agricultural development in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.
