UK Welcomes India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Urges Continued De-escalation

The United Kingdom on Saturday welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, encouraging both nations to maintain the momentum and work towards long-term peace and stability in the region.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy praised the move as a positive step forward. “Today’s ceasefire between India and Pakistan is hugely welcome. I urge both parties to sustain this. De-escalation is in everybody’s interest,” Lammy said in a statement shared on social media.

The statement came shortly after Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced in New Delhi that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan had contacted his Indian counterpart earlier in the day. During the call, both sides agreed to “stop all firing and military action on land, in the air and sea, with effect from 1700 hours IST”.

The ceasefire marks a significant development in Indo-Pak relations amid heightened tensions following recent cross-border incidents. The UK, a long-standing advocate for peaceful dialogue between the two South Asian neighbors, reiterated its support for diplomatic engagement to resolve differences.

International observers and diplomatic communities have also welcomed the ceasefire, viewing it as a much-needed opportunity to rebuild trust and avoid further escalation.
