U Mumba were crowned champions of the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) league after a dominant 8-4 victory over Jaipur Patriots in a thrilling final held in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The Patriots got off to a strong start as their captain, Kanak Jha, secured a commanding 11-4 win in the opening game against U Mumba’s Lilian Bardet. However, Bardet quickly turned the tables, winning the next two games 11-5 and 11-7 to give U Mumba the momentum.
The spotlight then shifted to U Mumba captain and World No. 12 Bernadette Szocs, who delivered a crucial 2-1 win over Sreeja Akula, ending her opponent’s unbeaten run in the tournament and strengthening U Mumba’s lead.
The team’s all-around performance and tactical depth ensured they stayed ahead through the remainder of the tie, eventually sealing the title with a confident 8-4 scoreline.
