Tragedy Strikes Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha: Two Dead, Over 130 Injured

The annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri turned tragic as two individuals lost their lives and more than 130 others sustained injuries in separate incidents, officials confirmed on Monday.
A resident of Bolangir district succumbed allegedly due to suffocation during a stampede-like situation on Sunday amidst the Rath Yatra procession. Sushant Kumar Patnaik, assistant commandant of St John Ambulance Service, recounted the efforts to save the victim: “When we transferred him to the ambulance, his pulse was active. Despite administering CPR en route to the hospital, doctors unfortunately pronounced him brought dead.”
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the incidents that marred the otherwise festive atmosphere of the revered Rath Yatra, one of the most significant religious processions in Odisha. Emergency services and local administration swiftly responded to the incidents, providing necessary medical aid and support to the injured.
The Rath Yatra, renowned for its grandeur and spiritual significance, draws devotees from across the globe to witness the chariot procession of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra through the streets of Puri.
As investigations continue, authorities are focused on ensuring the safety and security of all participants and spectators during the remaining days of the Rath Yatra festivities.
