Rourkela gets science, culture infrastructure boost
Rourkela, Apr 21: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on Tuesday inaugurated a series of major civic and cultural infrastructure projects in Rourkela, Odisha, aimed at boosting urban development, scientific awareness, and preservation of tribal heritage.
At a public function, the President inaugurated the Planetarium and Science Centre and the Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path. Later, she also dedicated the Tribal Museum and the Integrated Command and Control Centre to the public.
Addressing the gathering, Murmu highlighted the unique charm of Sundargarh district, noting its rich natural beauty, vibrant folk traditions, and cultural heritage. She described the region as a land of dense forests, scenic landscapes, and talented individuals, particularly in sports.
She also underscored Rourkela’s cosmopolitan character, stating that people from across India reside in the city for employment and livelihood, contributing to the promotion of Odisha’s art, literature, tribal traditions, and sporting culture.
Emphasising inclusive growth, the President said that national development is achievable only through the progress of all sections of society. She noted that both the Central and State governments are implementing various schemes focused on tribal welfare, accelerating development in tribal-dominated districts like Sundargarh.
Murmu urged citizens to actively participate in nation-building and support those who are left behind. She called on people to strive towards becoming responsible individuals while contributing to the upliftment of society.
Referring to the vision of a developed India, the President said the country is steadily moving towards becoming a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. She added that Odisha will celebrate its centenary as a state in 2036, and achieving the goals of a developed Odisha and India will require collective efforts from all sections, including farmers, workers, tribal communities, youth, and intellectuals.
The newly inaugurated projects are expected to strengthen Rourkela’s urban infrastructure while promoting scientific learning, cultural preservation, and efficient governance.
