Thakurani Yatra Concludes in Berhampur Splendor

Thakurani Yatra Concludes in Berhampur with Grand Procession

The vibrant and culturally rich Thakurani Yatra, one of southern Odisha’s most revered festivals, came to a grand conclusion in Berhampur on Tuesday. The idol of Goddess Budhi Thakurani was ceremoniously taken back to her temple in the morning, marking the end of the nearly month-long celebrations.

The biennial festival, which commenced on April 3, saw an overwhelming turnout from devotees and visitors across the region. The return journey of the deity began at midnight on Monday from Desibehera Street, where a temporary pandal had served as the goddess’s “paternal home” during the festivities.

Thousands of devotees thronged the streets to witness the farewell procession, chanting hymns and performing traditional dances, reflecting the deep cultural roots and community spirit associated with the yatra. Local artists and cultural troupes added to the spectacle with colorful performances throughout the night.

The Thakurani Yatra is not only a religious event but also a celebration of Berhampur’s heritage, bringing together people from various communities in a shared expression of faith and festivity. The festival traditionally honors the visit of the goddess to her maternal home, symbolizing familial bonds and community devotion.

Security and crowd management were handled smoothly by local authorities, ensuring a peaceful and joyful conclusion to the event. With the goddess now back in her temple, the city resumes its daily rhythm, carrying forward the spiritual energy of the yatra.
