Suryakumar Yadav will lead Mumbai Indians (MI) in their opening IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, as regular skipper Hardik Pandya serves a one-match suspension for over-rate violations from last season.

Suryakumar, who recently captained India to a 4-1 T20I series win over England, will step in as stand-in skipper for the high-profile clash.

While SKY’s leadership skills were on display during India’s recent home series, his batting form remains a concern, having scored just 38 runs in five matches.

MI will be hoping for a strong start under his leadership as they face defending champions CSK in their season opener.
