Survey Commences for First Phase of Bhubaneswar Metro Project

The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has initiated the survey for the first phase of the metro construction project in Odisha’s capital. The survey, conducted from Vani Vihar to Sishu Bhawan Square, saw collaboration between various authorities including BMRC, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), among others.
The survey, conducted amidst the ongoing extreme heatwave, aimed to assess the proposed stretch, encompassing five stations – Master Canteen, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Patia, and Nandankanan. The metro corridor, estimated at Rs 6,255 crore, will eventually connect Bhubaneswar with Cuttack, featuring a total of 20 stations including key landmarks like Biju Patnaik International Airport, Capital Hospital, and Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
BMRC has collaborated with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for this ambitious project, receiving approval for its Detailed Project Report (DPR) from the state government. With a foundation stone laid by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the 26-km elevated line connecting Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia in Cuttack is slated for completion within four years. The state government’s recent allocation of Rs 1,000 crore further underscores its commitment to this transformative endeavor.
