Spain Explores Strategic Partnership with Odisha

Spain Eyes Strategic Long-Term Partnership with Odisha in Key Sectors

In a significant step towards international collaboration, Ambassador of Spain to India, Juan Antonio March Pujol, on Saturday expressed Spain’s keen interest in forging a long-term, technology-driven partnership with Odisha across critical sectors.

During his official visit to the state capital, Ambassador Pujol held detailed discussions with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, exploring avenues for bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, metallurgy, textiles, and automobiles—sectors that align with both Spain’s industrial strengths and Odisha’s growth ambitions.

Recognizing Odisha’s pivotal role as India’s mineral hub and a major steel-producing region, Chief Minister Majhi cited recent foreign investments, including the Rs 90 crore refractory manufacturing plant being set up in Khordha by TIMAB Magnesium India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the French-Spanish Groupe Roullier.

The Chief Minister also spotlighted the state’s progressive Renewable Energy Policy, and extended an invitation to leading Spanish companies like Siemens Gamesa, Acciona, and Iberdrola to explore investment opportunities in Odisha’s solar parks, offshore wind projects, and green hydrogen initiatives. Emphasis was laid on the state’s commitment to a green transition, with a call for Spanish expertise in floating solar and energy storage technologies.

On the textile front, Majhi welcomed globally recognized Spanish apparel brands such as ZARA, Desigual, and Mango to develop sourcing hubs and joint innovation centers in Odisha’s upcoming integrated textile parks.

Ambassador Pujol praised Odisha’s dynamic industrial ecosystem and noted Spain’s readiness to collaborate in a sustainable and mutually beneficial manner. He underlined Spain’s interest in contributing cutting-edge technology and global best practices to Odisha’s evolving industrial landscape.

Reaffirming Odisha’s stature as one of India’s fastest-growing states and a top destination for responsible investments, the meeting concluded with a shared vision of long-term collaboration. Both sides committed to fostering high-value partnerships that extend beyond commerce, potentially including cultural and educational exchanges.

The visit is expected to pave the way for a new chapter in Indo-Spanish cooperation rooted in innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
