Sonia Gandhi Calls Lok Sabha Results a “Defeat” for PM Modi
NEW DELHI: Sonia Gandhi, president of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP), characterized the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections as a “political and moral defeat” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a CPP meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament on Saturday, Gandhi asserted that Modi had forfeited his moral authority to lead.
Addressing newly elected MPs, Gandhi criticized Modi for allegedly shirking responsibility for the electoral setback and emphasized his intention to be sworn in again on Sunday. She was unanimously re-elected as the chairperson of the CPP during the meeting.
The remarks by Gandhi reflect the Congress party’s stance following the election results, underscoring a contentious political climate as Modi prepares for his swearing-in ceremony amid ongoing scrutiny and criticism.
