Soil Collapses Over Tunnel in Odisha

Soil Caves In Over Under-Construction Rail Tunnel in Odisha, No Injuries Reported
A portion of the topsoil above an under-construction railway tunnel collapsed on Monday near Adenigarh in Odisha’s Boudh district, officials confirmed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The collapse occurred along the Khurda Road-Bolangir railway line, a crucial infrastructure project aimed at enhancing rail connectivity in western Odisha. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) issued a statement attributing the minor collapse at Tunnel No. 4 to a combination of loose soil conditions and ongoing heavy rainfall in the region.
“A minor incident of soil caving-in occurred this afternoon at Tunnel No. 4 on the Khurda-Bolangir railway line. It was due to loose soil formation and continuous rainfall in the area,” the ECoR statement read.
Authorities have initiated precautionary measures and a technical team has been deployed to assess the site and ensure structural safety before resuming construction work. Railway officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent any recurrence and that the safety of workers remains a top priority.
The Khurda-Bolangir railway project has been under active development as part of efforts to boost connectivity and economic growth in Odisha’s interior regions.
