Six Asian Medallists Qualify for Worlds

Six Asian Championship Medallists Win Selection Trials for U17 World Wrestling Championships
India’s squad for the upcoming U17 World Wrestling Championships has been finalized, with six medallists from the recent Asian Championships earning their place in the national team after dominating the selection trials held in the capital on Monday.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) limited the trials to only those who secured medals at the U17 National Championships, ensuring that only the best in each category competed. This decision not only streamlined the selection process but also raised the competitive bar, with fewer bouts and high-quality matchups across all 10 weight categories.
Among the standout performers were:
- Rachna Parmar (43kg) from Haryana
- Moni (57kg) from Delhi
- Ashvini Vaishno (65kg) from Rajasthan
- Manisha (69kg) from Haryana
All four clinched gold medals at the Asian U17 Championships held recently in Vietnam and lived up to expectations by winning their respective trials.
In addition to them, two more Asian medallists also secured their place, reinforcing India’s strong chances at the global event.
WFI officials expressed confidence in the selected wrestlers, stating that this team reflects the best of India’s young wrestling talent and has the potential to make a mark at the World Championships.
The U17 World Wrestling Championships are scheduled to take place later this year, and with a squad filled with proven international performers, India will be looking to continue its ascent in global age-group wrestling.
