Sindhu Underdog but Still a Threat: Kashyap

NEW DELHI: Former Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap has described PV Sindhu as an “underdog” at the upcoming Paris Olympics, despite her impressive track record and formidable reputation. Speaking on Thursday, Kashyap emphasized that Sindhu’s past achievements make her a force to be reckoned with, even if her recent form and ranking suggest otherwise.

Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, is eyeing an unprecedented third straight Olympic medal. However, she has struggled to regain her peak performance since returning from a knee injury in February.

Kashyap, serving as an Olympics expert for JioCinema & Sports18, highlighted Sindhu’s significant experience and success on the world stage. “It’s her third Olympics, she won two medals in the last two Olympics and several world championship medals. So I think she feels she has an edge already even though her ranking doesn’t say it or her recent form doesn’t say it,” he told reporters during an interaction.

Despite being considered an underdog, Sindhu’s name carries considerable weight, and opponents remain cautious of her big-match credentials. Her ability to perform under pressure and her extensive experience in international competitions make her a formidable competitor.

As the Paris Olympics approach, the badminton world will be watching closely to see if Sindhu can once again defy the odds and add another medal to her illustrious career.
