Ruckus in Odisha Assembly Over Fertiliser Scarcity

Ruckus in Odisha Assembly Over Fertiliser Scarcity, Proceedings Adjourned

The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes for the third consecutive day on Saturday, with BJD MLAs staging protests over the alleged scarcity of fertilisers across the state.

The legislators, carrying placards and banners highlighting the fertiliser crisis and the distress of farmers, trooped into the well of the House demanding a detailed discussion on the issue. Their protest disrupted proceedings, forcing Speaker Pramila Mallick to adjourn the House till 4 pm.

The MLAs alleged that the shortage of fertilisers has severely affected the farming community, particularly during the crucial crop season, and urged the government to ensure immediate and adequate supply.

Amid the commotion, the Assembly also made an obituary reference to former MLA George Tirkey, who passed away on Friday night. Members paid tributes to the departed leader before the House was adjourned.

With the deadlock persisting for days, legislative business has been repeatedly stalled, raising concerns about the impact on ongoing discussions and policy matters.
