Rahul Gandhi Calls Puri Stampede Tragedy a Serious Warning, Emphasizes Accountability
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the stampede near Gundicha Temple in Puri during the Rath Yatra, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday stressed that protecting lives must be the highest priority during such large public events.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Gandhi called the incident “extremely saddening” and conveyed his heartfelt condolences. “The stampede during the Rath Yatra in Puri is extremely saddening. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families, and I hope for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees,” he said.

The Congress leader also underscored the importance of crowd control and public safety at religious gatherings of such magnitude. “This tragedy is a serious warning. Security arrangements and crowd management for large-scale events must be taken seriously and reviewed thoroughly,” he added.

He further asserted that any negligence in safeguarding lives is unacceptable, calling for accountability in managing mass religious events. “Protecting lives is paramount, and any lapse in this responsibility is unacceptable,” Gandhi stated.

Three devotees lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in the stampede near Lord Jagannath’s chariot in Saradhabali area of Puri on Sunday. Authorities have initiated a probe to determine the cause and circumstances of the tragedy.
