Prohibitory Order Imposed in Cremation Ground in Odisha’s Ganjam District
The Ganjam district administration has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) at a cremation ground in Talapatna village, prohibiting the assembly of four or more persons. This action was taken after tensions arose between two communities over the use of the cremation ground, according to an official statement.
The prohibitory order was imposed on Monday by Bhanjanagar sub-collector Anil Kumar Sethi as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential conflict. A police officer provided further details on Wednesday, confirming that the order was put in place following opposition from one community against the entry of another community into the cremation ground.
The conflict began when members of one community objected to the entry of others into the cremation ground, leading to heightened tensions in the village. To maintain peace and order, the district administration decided to enforce Section 144 CrPC.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that peace is maintained in the area. Additional police forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents and to ensure compliance with the prohibitory order.
The district administration has appealed to the residents of Talapatna to cooperate with the authorities and to resolve the issue amicably. Efforts are being made to facilitate dialogue between the two communities to reach a mutually acceptable solution.
The imposition of Section 144 CrPC will remain in effect until further notice. The administration has urged the public to adhere to the restrictions and to avoid any actions that could escalate the situation.
