President urges united effort for Odisha

President Murmu Urges Collective Effort to Build a Prosperous Odisha by 2036
President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday addressed the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, calling on all stakeholders to work together to build a prosperous Odisha by 2036 — the centenary year of the state’s formation — which, she said, would be the state’s greatest contribution to making India a developed nation by 2047.
Speaking at the Assembly, the President said the occasion evoked nostalgia, recalling her own years as a legislator and minister in the same House. She highlighted Odisha’s historic role in India’s freedom struggle, its rich legacy of transformation exemplified by Chandashoka’s journey to Dharmashoka, and the valour of the state’s tribal communities who fought against colonial rule.
President Murmu underscored Odisha’s long-standing tradition of women’s empowerment, noting that the Assembly has never been without women members since its inception. She praised Odia women for excelling across diverse fields and bringing national pride.
Commending the 17th Legislative Assembly for its productive sessions and strong culture of dialogue, she appreciated the Odisha Government’s initiatives in agriculture, education, health, tribal development, housing, and disaster management. She said the state’s industrialisation is gaining momentum due to coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state.
Highlighting Odisha’s natural wealth — minerals, forests, water resources and capable human capital — the President said the state has the potential to become a leading economic force in India.
She reminded MLAs of their responsibility as representatives trusted by the people, urging them to fulfil citizens’ expectations and “bring smiles to their faces.” Emphasising the influence of public representatives in the digital age, she noted that their words and conduct both inside and outside the House shape public perception and should inspire society positively.
President Murmu expressed confidence that all stakeholders would work with the spirit of “Nation First” to build a stronger, prosperous Odisha aligned with India’s development goals.
