President Murmu attends Angola jubilee, visits Botswana

President Murmu Attends Angola’s 50th Independence Day, Begins Historic Visit to Botswana
President Droupadi Murmu participated in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence on November 11, during her two-nation visit to Africa.
At the invitation of Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President Murmu attended a colourful ceremony held at the Praça da República in Luanda, where she witnessed a vibrant display of the country’s military and cultural traditions.
The visit underscored India’s growing engagement with African nations, highlighting shared democratic values, South-South cooperation, and historical solidarity with liberation movements across the continent.
Following the celebrations in Angola, President Murmu arrived in Botswana for the final leg of her Africa tour — marking the first-ever State Visit by an Indian Head of State to Botswana.
She was received with a warm ceremonial welcome and a guard of honour at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone by President Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana, in a gesture reflecting the deep and friendly ties between the two countries.
President Murmu’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, investment, education, digital technology, and healthcare, while reaffirming India’s commitment to its partnership with Africa.
