President Droupadi Murmu Graces BIT Mesra’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand, today. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized the transformative role of technology in modern society and the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in shaping the future.

Highlighting India’s proactive approach to technological advancements, President Murmu acknowledged the government’s efforts to integrate AI into higher education institutions. However, she also underscored the need for inclusive progress, ensuring that technological benefits reach marginalized communities.

The President encouraged young innovators to consider both high-tech advancements and traditional knowledge systems, emphasizing that many societal challenges could be addressed through indigenous, small-scale solutions.

Celebrating BIT Mesra’s contributions to education and research, President Murmu praised its pioneering role in engineering and technology. She acknowledged the institute’s landmark achievements, such as establishing India’s first Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry in 1964 and setting up one of the country’s first Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Parks (STEP) in 1975.

Expressing confidence in BIT Mesra’s continued excellence, she lauded the institution’s role in shaping India’s scientific and technological landscape. The event marked a proud moment for the institute as it celebrated 75 years of academic and research excellence.
