PM Modi Meets Bhutan’s Fourth King, Attends Global Peace Prayer Festival in Thimphu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan, in Thimphu on Wednesday during his visit to the Himalayan kingdom.
Extending warm felicitations on the occasion of His Majesty’s 70th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi conveyed the greetings, best wishes, and prayers of the Government and people of India for the Fourth King’s continued good health and well-being.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to His Majesty for his visionary leadership and guidance in further strengthening the long-standing India–Bhutan friendship, which is built on mutual trust, cultural affinity, and shared spiritual traditions.
During the meeting, the two leaders held discussions on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation in areas such as development partnership, education, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.
Later, Prime Minister Modi joined His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, His Majesty the Fourth King, and the Prime Minister of Bhutan at the Kalachakra initiation ceremony at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu. The event was part of the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival, presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the ceremony symbolized the deep spiritual and cultural ties that unite India and Bhutan, reflecting the enduring friendship between the two neighbouring nations.
