PM Modi Addresses Indian Diaspora in New York, Celebrates Achievements and Strengthens Ties

In a spirited address to the Indian diaspora at a gathering in New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the enduring bond between India and its expatriates, celebrating their contributions to both nations. With enthusiastic chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” Modi expressed gratitude for the support of Indians abroad, acknowledging their role as “Rashtradoots” (nation’s emissaries).

Reflecting on his journey from an inquisitive traveler to the Prime Minister, Modi shared memories of past interactions with the diaspora, emphasizing the unbreakable ties that connect Indians worldwide to their homeland. He noted that the spirit of unity among diverse languages and cultures is what makes India unique.

The Prime Minister underscored the significant achievements of the Indian government, pointing to India’s growth from the 10th to the 5th largest economy in just a decade. He also celebrated India’s recent victory in the Chess Olympiad, marking a historic achievement in the sport.

Modi articulated his vision for a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) under the acronym PUSHP—Progressive, Unstoppable, Spiritual, Humanity First, and Prosperous. He emphasized the importance of democratic values, noting the successful conduct of elections in India, which he described as the largest in human history.

Highlighting the growing influence of India on the global stage, Modi discussed the country’s commitment to climate action and sustainable development. He reiterated India’s role as a leader in the green energy transition and the significance of its Digital Public Infrastructure.

Modi announced new initiatives to strengthen India-U.S. ties, including the opening of consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, and the establishment of the Thiruvalluvar Chair for Tamil Studies at the University of Houston. He also expressed gratitude to the U.S. government for returning 300 ancient artefacts to India, a gesture reflecting a deep respect for Indian heritage.

Concluding his address, Modi called upon the diaspora to continue nurturing the India-U.S. friendship and to participate in local initiatives honoring Indian culture. He urged attendees to join him in promoting Mission LiFE, aimed at sustainable living.

The event showcased the vibrant spirit of the Indian community in the U.S. and reinforced the mutual aspirations of both nations for a prosperous future.
