Odisha Unveils Land Policy for Renewables

Odisha to Introduce Land Lease Policy to Boost Renewable Energy Projects

In a bid to accelerate renewable energy development and achieve its ‘Net Zero’ commitments, the Odisha government is preparing a dedicated land lease policy to facilitate renewable energy (RE) projects, officials said on Friday.

Satyapriya Rath, Managing Director of GRIDCO Ltd, noted that land acquisition has become a major hurdle for renewable energy initiatives across states. The new policy aims to streamline land allotment processes, making it easier for developers to establish solar, wind, and other clean energy projects in Odisha.

GRIDCO Ltd, formerly known as the Grid Corporation of Odisha Ltd, serves as the state-designated entity responsible for bulk power procurement on behalf of the DISCOMs in Odisha. By introducing this policy, the state hopes to attract greater private investment in renewable energy and strengthen its transition toward sustainable power generation.

Officials emphasized that the initiative will support Odisha’s environmental targets, enhance energy security, and contribute to the state’s broader climate action strategy.
