Odisha to Establish Four Fast-Track Courts for Women-Related Cases
Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to address the rising crimes against women, the Odisha government announced the establishment of four fast-track courts and a National Forensic University in the state. This initiative aims to expedite the conviction process in women-related cases and other serious crimes.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan made the announcement in the Assembly on Thursday while responding to a debate on an adjournment motion concerning “rising crimes against women.” Harichandan stated that these measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and enhancing the state’s legal infrastructure.
Replying on behalf of Chief Minister Mohanj Charan Majhi, who also holds charge of the Home department, the Law Minister emphasized the importance of timely justice in preventing crimes and deterring offenders. “The fast-track courts will reduce the pendency of cases involving crimes against women, ensuring swifter delivery of justice,” he said.
In addition to the fast-track courts, the proposed National Forensic University is expected to strengthen investigative processes and improve the quality of forensic analysis, which is critical for securing convictions.
This announcement comes amidst growing public concerns over the safety and security of women in the state. Legislators participating in the debate urged the government to take proactive measures to curb crimes and ensure the dignity and safety of women.
The establishment of these courts and the forensic university is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing these concerns while enhancing the state’s judicial and investigative capabilities.
