Odisha to Roll Out Ayushman Bharat Yojana by February 2025

Odisha will implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) by the end of February next year, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced on Monday.

The state government will also integrate its own flagship health scheme, the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), alongside the Ayushman Bharat initiative. Together, the two schemes are expected to provide healthcare coverage to around 3.5 crore beneficiaries across the state.

“The implementation of these schemes will ensure quality healthcare access to a larger segment of Odisha’s population, strengthening our commitment to universal health coverage,” Minister Mahaling stated during the announcement.

While Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY offers cashless healthcare services for secondary and tertiary treatments for economically vulnerable families, the GJAY is designed to address specific health concerns of Odisha’s residents. The convergence of these two programs is expected to bring comprehensive healthcare benefits to people in rural and urban areas alike.

The state government is currently finalizing the logistics for the rollout, including empanelment of hospitals and training of healthcare providers. Officials have assured that the schemes will be operational within the stipulated timeline, providing a major boost to Odisha’s healthcare infrastructure.

Citizens and healthcare experts have welcomed the move, with many seeing it as a transformative step toward improving health outcomes and reducing the financial burden on families in the state.
