Odisha to Raise Social Security Pensions to Rs 3,000, Says Minister

The Odisha government is making efforts to increase social security pensions to Rs 3,000 per month for persons with disabilities, widows, and senior citizens. This was announced by Nityananda Gond, the Minister of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, on Tuesday.
Minister Gond revealed that the government is currently working to estimate the budgetary requirements necessary to implement the proposed hike. “We are in the process of calculating the financial implications of this increase,” he said.
In addition to determining the budget, the plan also requires clearance from the Finance Department. “We need to obtain the necessary approvals from the Finance Department to move forward with this initiative,” Gond added.
The proposed increase in social security pensions aims to provide enhanced financial support to vulnerable sections of society, ensuring a better quality of life for persons with disabilities, widows, and senior citizens in Odisha.
The move has been welcomed by various social welfare organizations and beneficiaries, who believe that the increase will help address the rising cost of living and provide greater financial stability for those in need.
The Odisha government’s initiative reflects its commitment to improving social security measures and supporting marginalized communities across the state. As the proposal advances, it is expected to bring much-needed relief to thousands of beneficiaries, furthering the state’s mission of social welfare and inclusivity.
