Odisha to Establish Sports Complexes in All Blocks with Rs 4,124 Crore Allocation

In a significant move to promote sports and nurture talent at the grassroots level, the Odisha government has announced its plan to construct sports complexes in all 314 blocks of the state. The government has allocated Rs 4,124 crore for the ambitious project, aiming to enhance sports infrastructure, especially in rural areas.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Suryyabanshi Suraj emphasized the state’s commitment to developing sporting talent from every corner of Odisha. “We are dedicated to ensuring that sports facilities reach even the remotest regions. This initiative will help in identifying and nurturing young talent, providing them with world-class infrastructure and training facilities,” he said.

The government’s decision is in line with Odisha’s growing reputation as a sports hub in India. Over the past few years, the state has successfully hosted major international sporting events, including the Men’s Hockey World Cup. The establishment of sports complexes at the block level will further strengthen Odisha’s position in the national and international sports arena.

Each of these sports complexes will be equipped with modern facilities, training centers, and amenities to support multiple disciplines, ensuring that young athletes receive the necessary support to compete at higher levels. The initiative is also expected to generate employment opportunities and boost the local economy by engaging coaches, trainers, and other sports professionals.

With this large-scale investment, the Odisha government aims to create a strong sports culture and provide a platform for aspiring athletes, particularly from rural and tribal areas, to showcase their potential on national and global stages.
