Odisha Opposition Demands Beef Export Ban Amid Govt’s Plan to Amend Cow Slaughter Law

The Odisha government’s plan to amend its cow slaughter law has sparked political debate, with opposition parties demanding a complete ban on the export of beef from India.
State Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Thursday that the government is contemplating a stricter law against cow slaughter and cattle trafficking. His statement came in response to growing concerns about cattle protection and Assam’s recent decision to ban beef consumption.
Reacting to the announcement, opposition leaders from the BJD and Congress emphasized the need for a broader national policy on beef export. “If the government is sincere about cow protection, it should first ban the export of beef from India,” said a senior Congress leader.
The issue is expected to gain traction in the coming days, with lawmakers urging the government to strike a balance between traditional practices and legislative actions.
