Odisha MPs Review Railway Development and Infrastructure Projects in Khurda Road Division
Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: Members of Parliament representing constituencies under the Khurda Road Railway Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) convened in Bhubaneswar on Monday to review the progress of key railway development and infrastructure projects. The meeting focused on enhancing regional rail connectivity, improving passenger facilities, and expediting ongoing works.
During the session, MPs discussed increasing train frequencies, extending routes to underserved and remote regions, and speeding up construction of new railway lines. Prioritising public convenience, they also reviewed progress on Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs), passenger amenity upgrades, and measures to improve cleanliness across stations and trains.
Addressing stoppage requests and public demands for additional halts was another prominent agenda item.
Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab was unanimously elected Chairman of the Divisional Committee. The meeting was attended by MPs Dr. Sambit Patra (Puri), Sulata Deo, Subhasish Khuntia, Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, Ananta Nayak, Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, Rabindra Narayan Behera, Avimanyu Sethi, Anita Subhadarshini, and Debashish Samantaray.
The parliamentarians appreciated the developmental work being undertaken by the Khurda Road Division but emphasized the need to accelerate ongoing projects, improve services, and strengthen infrastructure to meet rising public expectations and traffic demand.
General Manager of East Coast Railway Parmeshwar Funkwal briefed the attendees on improvement initiatives, operational performance, and progress of major infrastructure works. Divisional Railway Manager Alok Tripathi also presented an overview of operational achievements, geographical coverage, and ongoing developmental priorities.
Senior officials from the East Coast Railway headquarters and Khurda Road Division were present during the meeting.
