Bhubaneswar, September 14, 2024: Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik expressed their heartfelt condolences on Thursday over the demise of veteran CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury. Yechury, who served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and was a former Rajya Sabha MP, passed away after a prolonged illness.
Naveen Patnaik, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president, emphasized the void Yechury’s absence will leave in national debates, particularly on issues of major importance. “He will be deeply missed during national discussions,” Patnaik said in his tribute.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Raj Bhavan conveyed Governor Das’ sorrow over Yechury’s passing: “Hon’ble Governor is saddened to hear about the demise of @cpimspeak General Secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP #SitaramYechury after a prolonged illness. He conveys his deep condolences to the family and friends.”
Yechury was a prominent figure in Indian politics, known for his firm ideological stance and eloquence in parliamentary debates. His contributions to Indian socialism and his role in shaping the CPI(M)’s policies will be remembered for years to come.
