Odisha Governor seeks stronger-support for PVTGs

Odisha Governor Calls for Greater Support to PVTG Communities in Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar, Sep 10 — Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Tuesday urged officials in Malkangiri district to extend enhanced support to the Bonda and Didayi communities, recognized as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), ensuring their effective access to government welfare schemes.

During his district visit, the Governor said that subsidies alone were often inadequate for purchasing livestock such as cows and goats or for establishing small-scale industries. He suggested that PVTGs should be assisted in securing bank loans to bridge financial gaps and improve livelihood opportunities.

Dr. Kambhampati stressed the need to diversify livelihood options, encouraging dairy farming, goat rearing, and other allied household-based activities alongside agriculture to strengthen the economic base of tribal families. He also called for large-scale awareness campaigns to educate PVTG households about schemes designed for their welfare.

Earlier, the Governor visited Sitakunda, a mythologically significant Ramayana site, where he offered prayers to Goddess Sita. He was welcomed by members of the Bonda community through traditional attire and vibrant cultural performances.

He also inspected a bead-making training centre, interacted with beneficiaries, and distributed Forest Rights Act (FRA) pattas to eligible families. Expressing satisfaction, Dr. Kambhampati said he was pleased to hear success stories of PVTG families who had effectively utilized government schemes for socio-economic progress.

The event was attended by Malkangiri MLA Narsingha Madkami, Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Governor Rupa Roshan Sahu, and senior district officials.
