Odisha Commits to Sustainable Urban Mobility with New Electric Buses
In a significant push towards sustainable urban transport, the Odisha government introduced 12 new electric buses under the ‘Mo Bus’ service, emphasizing its commitment to improving urban mobility across the state. The Housing & Urban Development Minister, Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, flagged off the buses on Wednesday, marking a step forward in Odisha’s goal for a greener and more accessible public transport system.
The Mo Bus service, operated by the state, has been integral in providing reliable, efficient, and affordable public transportation to Odisha’s urban areas. Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, Minister Mahapatra highlighted the state’s commitment to sustainable development, saying, “The government of Odisha is committed to enhancing urban mobility in the state. The expansion of bus services symbolises our commitment to building a sustainable future under Viksit Odisha vision.”
This move aligns with the state’s Viksit Odisha vision, which envisions a forward-looking and environmentally responsible future for Odisha. The new electric buses are expected to reduce emissions, contribute to air quality improvement, and address the growing need for efficient urban transit options.
The addition of these eco-friendly buses to Odisha’s public transport network is anticipated to encourage more residents to adopt public transportation, thereby helping the state reduce its carbon footprint and set an example for other regions aiming for sustainable mobility solutions.
