Odisha CM Launches Odia Reference Books for Class XI Science Students

Bhubaneswar, Jan 31 : Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday unveiled Odia-language reference books for Class XI Science students, marking a major step towards strengthening mother-tongue education in the state.

The reference books, prepared by the School and Mass Education Department, cover key science subjects—Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. For the first time, such comprehensive reference material has been made available in Odia for higher secondary science students.

To ensure wide access, the State Government will supply 10 to 20 copies of each book to every higher secondary school in Odisha. The books will be kept in school libraries, allowing students to read and use them freely without any cost.

In addition, the Odia Study and Research Institute has been entrusted with making the books available for sale at bookstores located in district headquarters, enabling students and teachers to procure personal copies if required.

Officials said the initiative is expected to benefit around 1.20 lakh students studying in nearly 700 higher secondary schools across the state. The move aims to help students better understand complex scientific concepts by learning in their mother tongue.

The Chief Minister also announced that in the next phase, the government plans to prepare Odia-language science reference books for Class XII students. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen access to quality educational resources in Odia, from primary education up to higher and technical education levels.
