Odisha CM Launches Hygenco Green Ammonia Plant

Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Leads Groundbreaking Ceremony for Hygenco’s Green Ammonia Plant in Gopalpur
Odisha marked a significant stride in India’s green energy journey as Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi led the groundbreaking ceremony for HHP Five Private Limited’s (a subsidiary of Hygenco Green Energies Pvt. Ltd) ambitious Green Ammonia Plant at Gopalpur. The event witnessed the presence of senior state officials, key industry leaders, and representatives from the clean energy sector.

The project, which aims to produce 1.1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia in three phases, will play a pivotal role in positioning Odisha—and Gopalpur in particular—as a nucleus of clean energy-powered industrial growth. With this initiative, Hygenco continues its mission to decarbonize heavy industries and accelerate India’s transition to a green economy.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized Odisha’s commitment to sustainable development and job creation through clean energy initiatives. “This project reflects our vision to make Odisha a powerhouse of green industry, while empowering our youth and preserving our environment,” he said.

Hygenco previously set a benchmark by commissioning India’s first commercial megawatt-scale green hydrogen plant in 2024, aimed primarily at decarbonizing the steel sector. The upcoming green ammonia facility is expected to further amplify India’s capabilities in green fuel production, aligning with national goals for carbon neutrality.

The Gopalpur project also reflects India’s growing role in the global green energy ecosystem, and marks a milestone in Odisha’s roadmap to becoming a leading destination for climate-resilient infrastructure and investment.
