Odisha Celebrates Birth Anniversaries of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai

Odisha observed the birth anniversaries of two of its iconic freedom fighters, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai, on Thursday with a series of events and tributes across the state.
The day marked Parakram Diwas, commemorating the 128th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who was born in Cuttack on January 23, 1897. Simultaneously, the state celebrated the birth anniversary of Veer Surendra Sai, born in Khinda, Sambalpur district, on January 23, 1809.
Various cultural programs, seminars, and tribute ceremonies were organized to honor the contributions of these two leaders to India’s freedom struggle. In Cuttack, Netaji’s birthplace saw gatherings of students, historians, and citizens who paid homage to the leader. Similarly, in Sambalpur, several events were held to remember Veer Surendra Sai’s relentless fight against British colonial rule.
“Netaji and Veer Surendra Sai symbolize courage, patriotism, and selfless service. Their legacies continue to inspire us,” said a state official during a ceremony in Bhubaneswar.
Both leaders are revered for their roles in India’s independence movement—Netaji for his leadership of the Indian National Army and Veer Surendra Sai for his resistance against British rule in western Odisha.
The celebrations emphasized the importance of remembering these national heroes and passing on their ideals to future generations.
