Odisha BJP slams Mamata over Cuttack violence

Odisha BJP Slams Mamata Banerjee for Comment on Cuttack Violence, Urges Her to Focus on Bengal
Odisha’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday sharply criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks blaming the BJP and Bajrang Dal for the recent communal clashes in Cuttack. The party said Banerjee should refrain from interfering in Odisha’s internal matters and instead concentrate on addressing issues within her own state.
State Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan hit back at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief, accusing her of attempting to incite people even after the situation in Cuttack had largely stabilised. “Odisha’s law and order is under control. Mamata Banerjee should look into the rising crimes and political violence in West Bengal before commenting on other states,” Harichandan said.
He further alleged that Banerjee’s statement was politically motivated and aimed at gaining attention by maligning the BJP. “Her comments are irresponsible and uncalled for. Odisha Police and the administration have acted swiftly to restore peace in Cuttack,” he added.
The violence in Cuttack broke out during the Durga idol immersion procession last weekend, leading to clashes between two groups. Over 31 people, including 10 police personnel, were injured, and several shops and vehicles were damaged in incidents of arson.
The state government has since taken measures to restore normalcy, deploying additional security forces and initiating compensation and rehabilitation efforts for affected families.
Meanwhile, political tensions continue to simmer as parties trade barbs over the causes and handling of the unrest. The BJP has reiterated that law and order in Odisha is being maintained effectively and urged all political leaders to act responsibly in their public statements.
