Odisha Announces ₹400-Crore Semiconductor Excellence Centre

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced that the state government will establish a Centre of Excellence for the semiconductor sector at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar, with an investment of ₹400 crore.
The announcement was made at the valedictory session of Indocrypt 2025, India’s flagship international conference on cryptography and information security, hosted by IIIT Bhubaneswar.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the proposed centre would focus on semiconductor materials and devices, and would play a key role in promoting skill development, advanced research, innovation, and industry collaboration in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
Majhi emphasized that the initiative aligns with India’s National Semiconductor Mission and reflects Odisha’s commitment to emerging technologies. He also reiterated the state government’s focus on strengthening cyber security, digital governance, and advanced technology research to position Odisha as a hub for high-tech innovation.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Centre of Excellence is expected to enhance academic–industry partnerships and contribute significantly to the growth of the semiconductor ecosystem in the state.
