Odisha Allows Cash Payment of Traffic E-Challans at RTO Offices

The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has instructed all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the state to accept cash payments for traffic e-challans issued to motorists, officials said on Friday.

The decision follows complaints from vehicle owners who reported difficulties in making online payments due to issues such as non-receipt of one-time passwords (OTP) and changes in mobile numbers linked to the e-challan system.

Under the new arrangement, a designated officer at each RTO office will be responsible for accepting cash payments against pending e-challans. The move is aimed at providing relief to motorists and ensuring smoother settlement of traffic violation fines.

Officials said the facility will coexist with the existing online payment system, giving vehicle owners greater flexibility and helping clear pending dues without procedural hurdles.
