Northern Odisha Railway Stations to Get Major Upgrades Under Amrit Station Scheme

Bhubaneswar, April 7 :In a significant move towards modernizing railway infrastructure, the Indian Railways has announced the redevelopment of key railway stations in Northern Odisha under the ambitious Amrit Station Scheme. This initiative aims to provide world-class facilities to passengers while boosting regional connectivity and economic development.

According to sources from the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the redevelopment plan focuses on transforming railway stations with modern infrastructure, advanced technology, and passenger-friendly amenities. The upgrades are designed to enhance travel comfort, accessibility, and efficiency, while also promoting local tourism and economic growth in the region.

Stations selected for redevelopment include:

  • Kendujhargarh – ₹10.16 crore
  • Barbil – ₹17.7 crore
  • Jaroli – ₹8.6 crore
  • Baripada – ₹15.35 crore
  • Rairangpur – ₹7.4 crore
  • Betnoti – ₹14.146 crore
  • Badampahar – ₹12.22 crore

Each of these stations will undergo extensive upgrades, including the construction of modern platforms, renovated ticketing counters, clean and spacious waiting lounges, and state-of-the-art passenger information systems. The redevelopment will also focus on enhanced accessibility through foot overbridges (FOBs) with lifts and escalators, catering to senior citizens, differently-abled passengers, and families.

Additional features will include:

  • Free Wi-Fi and digital display boards
  • Advanced CCTV surveillance and security systems
  • Improved catering and retail services
  • Designated parking and drop-off zones
  • Green spaces and cleaner station premises

The Amrit Station Scheme is a cornerstone of Indian Railways’ vision to create smart and sustainable transport hubs. The redevelopment of Northern Odisha’s stations is expected to not only improve travel convenience for lakhs of passengers but also create new job opportunities and stimulate tourism in the culturally rich and ecologically diverse region.

Officials emphasized that this initiative is a step towards building a future-ready railway network, aligned with the larger national agenda of infrastructure modernization and regional development.
