NHRC Seeks Report on Temple Neglect

NHRC Seeks Report from Odisha Government on Deteriorating Condition of 300-Year-Old Baladevjew Temple
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of a complaint regarding the alleged poor condition and deteriorating amenities at the historic 300-year-old Baladevjew Temple in Kendrapara district and has sought a detailed report from the Odisha government.
In an official communiqué, the NHRC directed the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kendrapara to submit an action-taken report within four weeks. Copies of the directive have also been forwarded to Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania.
The complaint lodged with the Commission accuses the temple’s endowment trust board, local police, and district authorities of gross negligence, leading to a steady decline in the temple’s condition. It further alleges that the basic facilities for devotees have worsened over time, severely affecting the spiritual and cultural experience of the visitors.
Local residents and devotees have long expressed concerns over inadequate maintenance, poor sanitation, and lack of infrastructure at the temple, which is one of the most revered religious sites in the region.
The NHRC’s intervention has sparked hope among locals for necessary action and restoration efforts to preserve the temple’s historical and religious significance.
