New York Indian Film Festival to Honor Shabana Azmi’s 50 Years in Cinema

Celebrating the illustrious five-decade career of esteemed Indian actor Shabana Azmi, the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) is set to pay homage to her remarkable contributions to cinema. The 24th edition of the festival, renowned as North America’s premier Indian film festival, will unfold from May 31 to June 2, showcasing a diverse array of 49 narrative features, documentaries, and short films featuring luminaries such as Amitabh Bachchan and Naseeruddin Shah.

As 2024 marks Azmi’s extraordinary journey spanning Indian and international cinema, the gala event will commemorate this milestone with a special tribute. Highlighting her legacy, the festival will feature a screening of her iconic 1996 film “Fire,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Deepa Mehta.
