Narayana Murthy Advocates for AI as a “Great Leveller”
Kolkata, December 15, 2024 – Infosys founder Narayana Murthy on Sunday highlighted the transformative power of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), in bridging social and economic divides. Speaking at the centenary celebration of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, Murthy called technology a “great leveller” that can reduce the gap between the wealthy and the underserved.
Murthy emphasized that AI can bring new opportunities to marginalized communities by improving access to essential services like healthcare, education, and agriculture. “Technology can help ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to the same opportunities,” Murthy said, urging for widespread adoption of AI across sectors.
He also stressed the need for India to invest in reskilling and upskilling its workforce to keep pace with technological advancements. “AI can do wonders, but it is human talent that will drive its success,” he added.
The veteran IT entrepreneur called for collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions to create an environment that fosters innovation while ensuring ethical use of AI. He emphasized that technology must benefit all, not just the privileged few.
Murthy concluded by urging India’s youth to embrace the digital revolution and harness technology to address the country’s challenges, reinforcing that the future will be shaped by those ready to innovate and adapt.
