Modi Unveils India’s Expansive Space Vision

PM Modi Highlights India’s Global Space Vision at GLEX 2025

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Global Conference on Space Exploration (GLEX) 2025 via videoconference today, delivering an inspiring vision of India’s contributions to and aspirations in space exploration. Speaking to a global audience of scientists, astronauts, and policymakers, the Prime Minister emphasized that “space is not merely a destination but a declaration of curiosity, courage, and collective progress.”

In a wide-ranging address, PM Modi highlighted India’s space achievements—from its humble beginnings in 1963 to becoming the first nation to land near the Moon’s South Pole. “Indian rockets carry more than payloads—they carry the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians,” he said. The Prime Minister recalled India’s milestone Mars Orbiter Mission in 2014, which succeeded on its first attempt, and acknowledged the significant contributions of the Chandrayaan series in advancing lunar science.

He proudly noted that many of India’s space missions are being led by women scientists, showcasing gender inclusivity in the nation’s scientific advancement. PM Modi also underscored India’s record-setting capabilities, such as developing indigenous cryogenic engines and deploying over 400 satellites for 34 countries using Indian launch vehicles.

India’s ambitions continue to soar, with the upcoming human spaceflight mission Gaganyaan symbolizing a new era of exploration. The Prime Minister announced that an Indian astronaut would soon travel to the International Space Station as part of a joint ISRO-NASA mission. Looking ahead, he outlined a bold roadmap: the establishment of the Bharatiya Antariksha Station by 2035 and the goal of landing an Indian astronaut on the Moon by 2040, followed by missions to Mars and Venus.

India’s space efforts, PM Modi stressed, are not driven by competition but by cooperation. Recalling India’s launch of a satellite for South Asian countries and the proposed G20 Satellite Mission for the Global South, he reiterated the country’s commitment to inclusive progress. “Our space journey is not just about exploration but also empowerment,” he said, citing how satellite technology supports fishermen, railway safety, and disaster management.

Highlighting India’s rapidly growing space startup ecosystem—with over 250 startups contributing to key technologies—Modi celebrated the role of innovation and youth in propelling India’s space future. Rooting India’s space vision in the ancient philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family—he called for a unified global approach to space exploration that benefits all of humanity.

Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi called for a new chapter in global space cooperation, led by science, driven by shared dreams, and guided by the hope of a brighter, interstellar future.
