PM Modi meets Qualcomm CEO; discusses AI, innovation and semiconductor mission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano R. Amon in New Delhi and discussed India’s progress in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and semiconductor development.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister shared details on X (formerly Twitter), describing the interaction as “wonderful” and emphasizing India’s growing role as a global hub for technology and innovation.
“It was a wonderful meeting with Mr. Cristiano R. Amon and discussing India’s strides in AI, innovation and skilling. Great to see Qualcomm’s commitment towards India’s semiconductor and AI missions,” Modi said.
He added that India offers “unmatched talent and scale to build technologies that will shape our collective future,” underscoring the country’s focus on building a robust digital and semiconductor ecosystem.
The meeting comes as the government pushes ahead with its Semicon India initiative, aimed at positioning the country as a major player in global chip manufacturing and design. Qualcomm, one of the world’s leading semiconductor and wireless technology firms, has been expanding its research and development footprint in India.
Amon, who has previously lauded India’s digital transformation and innovation potential, reiterated Qualcomm’s commitment to support India’s technology ambitions, including collaborations in AI applications, 5G expansion, and advanced chip design.
The discussions are seen as part of India’s broader efforts to attract global tech investment and strengthen strategic partnerships in next-generation technologies.
