Mirabai Chanu Honoured as DSJA Sportsperson

Mirabai Chanu Named ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ by Delhi Sports Journalist Association

New Delhi, Nov 17 : Tokyo Olympics silver medallist and Padma Shri awardee Mirabai Chanu was honoured as the ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ at the Delhi Sports Journalist Association (DSJA) Annual Awards Ceremony held on Sunday at the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).

The prestigious event was attended by DDCA President Rohan Jaitley and Delhi BJP President and Secretary General of the Archery Association of India, Virendra Sachdeva.

The ceremony also recognised the contributions of three veteran sports journalists—Pradeep Magazine, Vipin Bahuguna, and K.P. Mohan—who were felicitated for their impactful work in sports storytelling over the decades.

Mirabai’s coach, Vijay Sharma, received the Coach of the Year award, while Anupam Goswami, Head of Mashal Sports and League Chairman of the Pro Kabaddi League, was named Administrator of the Year for his efforts in elevating India’s indigenous sport.

Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Rohan Jaitley praised the role of sports journalists in shaping public engagement with sports. “Journalists help sports and sportspersons gain recognition and popularity. They have a huge role to play in the development of any sport. It’s DDCA’s pleasure to be associated with this ceremony, and we will continue to support DSJA.”

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, reflecting on his own journalism background, said, “Sports journalists are the storytellers who bring the achievements of athletes to life. Your dedication inspires generations to take up sports.”

DSJA President Abhishek Tripathi expressed gratitude to all attendees, stating, “This evening is a tribute to the journalists who bring the essence of sports to the forefront. We are proud to honour those who capture not just the game, but its spirit.”

The event highlighted the significant contributions of athletes, coaches, administrators, and journalists who collectively shape India’s sporting narrative.
