Odisha Migrant Worker’s Son Cracks NEET, Secures MBBS Seat at MKCG
In an inspiring story of grit and determination, a 19-year-old student from Khurda district, who worked as a migrant labourer in Bengaluru to support his family, has secured admission to a medical college after cracking the NEET UG examination.
Subham Sabar, a resident of Mudulidhiah village under Banpur block, overcame poverty and hardships to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor. Despite financial constraints, he continued his studies while taking up daily-wage work in Bengaluru to contribute to his family’s livelihood.
His perseverance paid off when he secured an all-India rank of 18,212 in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, earning him a seat in the MBBS course at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.
“I was overjoyed when I got a call from my teacher, Basudev Moharana, informing me that I had cleared NEET and secured admission to MBBS. It feels like a dream come true,” Sabar said, expressing gratitude to his mentors and family.
Belonging to a poor tribal family, Sabar’s journey has inspired many in his village, where access to higher education remains a challenge. Teachers and local residents have lauded his achievement, calling it a “ray of hope” for underprivileged students aspiring to pursue professional courses.
Educationists say Sabar’s story reflects the importance of perseverance, guidance, and community support in bridging the gap for disadvantaged students.
With his admission to one of Odisha’s premier medical colleges, Subham Sabar has not only fulfilled his personal dream but also set an example for countless young aspirants battling odds to pursue education.
