MakeMyTrip Launches Train Seat Forecast Feature

MakeMyTrip Launches ‘Seat Availability Forecast’ for Train Travellers
Travel booking platform MakeMyTrip has unveiled a new feature called Seat Availability Forecast to help train travellers make more informed booking decisions by predicting how quickly train seats are likely to fill up.
The Gurugram-based company announced the launch on Monday, stating that the new tool is aimed at reducing uncertainty and improving the booking experience for millions of users relying on India’s vast railway network.
According to MakeMyTrip, internal data indicates that nearly 40% of users book train tickets over multiple sessions, often spanning several days. Among them, around 70% end up with waitlisted tickets due to the delay in booking confirmed seats.
“With Seat Availability Forecast, we’re empowering users to make timely decisions by providing insights into the probability of seat confirmation,” said a company spokesperson. “This is especially useful for users who tend to delay bookings and then miss out on confirmed tickets.”
The predictive tool uses historical trends, booking patterns, and real-time data to forecast the likelihood of seat availability over time for specific trains and routes. This information is presented alongside the booking interface, allowing users to adjust their travel plans or book sooner to avoid getting waitlisted.
MakeMyTrip said the feature is part of a broader strategy to enhance user experience and build smarter travel tools for India’s growing digital-first population.
