CM Majhi Inaugurates Medical College, 650-Bed Hospital in Odisha’s Kandhamal

In a major boost to healthcare and education in Odisha’s tribal-dominated Kandhamal district, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday inaugurated a new government medical college with 100 MBBS seats and a state-of-the-art 650-bed hospital at Phulbani, the district headquarters.

The inauguration marks a significant milestone for the region, which has long faced challenges in accessing quality healthcare and medical education. The new institution is expected to serve both as a center for higher medical learning and a lifeline for local healthcare needs.

During his one-day visit to Kandhamal, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 10 development projects worth approximately ₹750 crore. These include the launch of five completed projects valued at ₹655 crore and foundation-laying for five new initiatives worth over ₹94 crore.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Kandhamal MP Sukant Kumar Panigrahi, and Phulbani MLA Umcharan Mallick accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.

“This medical college and hospital will not only enhance healthcare services in the region but also open new opportunities for our youth,” CM Majhi said while addressing a gathering.

The projects are part of the government’s broader vision to accelerate development in backward regions, with a focus on improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
